Booking and cancelling appointmentsPractice Information - Appointments

Appointments are for ten minutes and for one problem only. If you wish to discuss more than one problem, please book a double appointment.

Like all practices, our appointments are in considerable demand and we continue to address this by developing our nursing services. That is because our experienced nursing team can deal with many problems previously dealt with by doctors.

There are a significant number of same-day appointments available each day as well as appointments than can be booked in advance. We work as a clinical team and the appointment may not always be with your usual doctor. If you wish to see a specific doctor you may need to wait until they are next available in the surgery.

Appointments can be made by calling 01273 579500 / 579505 between 8am-6pm Monday to Friday

If you have registered for the service You can now book your next appointment online -  view, book and cancel your appointments by logging on to our new service on the internet.  Manage your appointments quickly and easily wherever you are, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year

To register you will need to come in to the practice with valid Photo ID.

Checking in for an Appointment

To save you queuing at the reception desk there is a fast track arrivals system. This is a touch screen which you will find to the left of the reception desk. We also have a plasma screen which we use to publicise useful information. You may also take your own blood pressure on the BP machine. It will give you a printed slip with your BP readings. Please pass this to reception or the doctor or nurse for recording on your records.

The doctors call patients to their rooms over the paging system. We have an induction loop system fitted - if you have a hearing aid, set it to the 'T' position. When you have booked in at reception the details will appear on the doctors' or nurses' computer. You will not be missed if you cannot hear the paging system or if you are in the toilet, because the doctor or nurse will know that you are in the building.

Cancelling Appointments

If you cannot attend your given appointment please call 01273 57900 / 579505 to cancel or reschedule. On average 60 people a month fail to turn up for their appointments without informing us.

These slots could be put to good use and offered to another patient, allowing the doctors and nurses to reduce any backlog of patients and reduce waiting times. Please think of others when you can no longer attend or need a scheduled appointment.

Telephone Consultations

If you need to speak to a doctor or nurse on the phone, please speak to the reception team. The receptionist will ask you to give some details so that the doctor or nurse can prioritise the call. We will try to return your call within 24 hours but other priorities may cause this to take longer.

The surgery telephone number has caller ID withheld. Please ensure you give the surgery a number which will accept our calls. Due to patient confidentiality we are unable to leave messages on answerphones without your explicit consent. You can download our consent to leave messages form here.

Making Appointments with the Nurse Team

You can make an appointment to see the nurse for blood tests, travel advice, wound care, ear syringing, flu vaccinations, asthma reviews and cervical smearss. When you make an appointment the receptionist will ask you to indicate what you need the appointment for, so that an appropriate length of time can be allocated to you. We offer a range of contraceptive services. We aim to review patients having regular checks of diabetes, asthma and chronic heart disease at least once a year.

Appointments for baby and pre-school immunisations will be sent to parents from the child record unit. If you cancel an appointment an alternative will be sent in due course. Fifteen year olds will be sent a letter telling them to book an appointment for their booster injections (they will need to bring an adult with them).

For travel vaccinations you will need to fill in a form, leave it at reception and then telephone the surgery a week later to find out which injections you need. There may be a charge for some vaccinations.

We also offer a full family planning service that includes coil-fitting and Implanon implants.

For blood tests please make an appointment with our phlebotomist.

Home Visits

If possible patients should make their way to the surgery to see their GP or Health Professional. This is because for every home visits a GP or nurse makes they could see several patients in the surgery. If patients are housebound or medically unable to attend the surgery then the GP will make a visit.

If you are too ill to attend surgery please telephone us before 10.30am if possible, as rounds have to be planned. Please give our staff some idea of your symptoms so we can judge the urgency of the call. The doctor will usually phone to discuss the patient's symptoms prior to arranging a visit.
